Support Groups
Support Groups can be a very powerful way that people manage their grief in the aftermath of a suicide. The purpose of this group is to provide a safe space for the LGBTQ+ Survivor of Suicide Loss to process their thoughts and feelings about their loss with other survivors.
A successful group will allow each participant to speak about all aspects of their grief, openly and without reservation. Because we all process these emotions differently, we will ask each group member to listen with respect and care for one another. Further group guidelines can be found here.
The group will be facilitated by Edmond Yomtoob. He is a clinical psychologist and survivor of suicide loss himself. His mother died by suicide in 1993.
Since that time, he has worked as suicide prevention advocate and he teaches people how to facilitate SOSL groups in the American Foundation for Suicide Preventions Suicide Bereavement Support Group Facilitator Training. Dr. Yomtoob has co-facilitated an in-person LGBTQ+ SOSL group in Chicago and he is now bringing it to a virtual space. To learn more about Dr Yomtoob and his practice, please go to www.psychologistchicago.com.
The group will meet monthly for 90 minutes. Suggested donation is $35 per individual, per session. All are welcome. No one will be turned away due to ability to pay.
To ensure the safety of the group, a brief screening will be mandatory. To learn more about the group or to participate in a brief screening, please e-mail Dr. Yomtoob at Edmond.yomtoob@psychologistchicago.com or go Contact Me portion of this website.
